It was the night between 22 and 23 September that a 20-year-old mother of small children in Strömsund was killed.

The police were alerted by anxious relatives and when they arrived at the scene, they found the dead woman and her little daughter inside the apartment.

The girl was physically unharmed.

Police early suspected the 25-year-old man, who was familiar with the woman before.

They are both originally from Eritrea.

The man was later arrested in a place in central Sweden and arrested for probable cause on suspicion of murdering the woman.

For less than a month now, he has been moved from prison to a psychiatric ward in Sundsvall, where he awaited trial.

On Tuesday morning, the news came that the 25-year-old had taken his own life on Monday night.

- He's dead, yes.

That is right, prosecutor Karin Jonsson Ryd confirms to SVT.

SVT: What happens now?

- Since the suspect has died, there is no one to prosecute.

The investigation will be completed.

The 25-year-old's defense lawyer Jan-Åke Nyström tells SVT Jämtland that he is surprised by the news that his client has taken his own life.

- I visited him as late as last Friday and in addition to talking about the case, we usually talk about how he feels.

Then he always answers that it's ok and then he does not say much more, says Jan-Åke Nyström.

- It is tragic and unnecessary, says Jan-Åke Nyström

SVT: How was the supervision he received on forensic psychiatry?

- I do not want to comment on that, says Jan-Åke Nyström.

Prosecutor Karin Jonsson Ryd does not want to express an opinion that the man was able to take his own life despite the fact that he was under surveillance at the forensic psychiatric clinic in Sundsvall.

- I refer to the legal psyche.

The only thing I can say is that it is very unfortunate that it has happened.

SVT: How was the investigation before the death?

- It was good, there were no doubts.

He had also admitted that he had killed her.

She says that the preliminary investigation into the murder was basically complete, all that remained was to get some analytical answers and a couple of interrogations.
