Regarding possible peace negotiations to end the war, the President of Azerbaijan said that he has confidence in the effectiveness of the negotiations, but stressed that this depends on the Armenian side's willingness to participate in them.

On the other hand, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said that Russia is a reliable mediator, and that it was proactive in seeking to settle the conflict, and accused Azerbaijan, calling on those he described as international players to intervene immediately for a ceasefire.

A spokesman for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also said that his country has repeatedly confirmed its readiness for peace negotiations and a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Russia, which has a joint defense agreement with Armenia, had previously offered to deploy military observers on the front lines in Karabakh, and twice tried to establish a truce between the two parties, but its efforts were unsuccessful.

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he hoped the United States would help Russia mediate for a solution to the conflict, estimating the death toll from the ongoing war in Karabakh at about 5,000.
