A young man was taken into custody after assaulting a police officer in Brive-la-Gaillarde during a check in a shopping arcade.

The suspect stabbed a police officer several times, but failed to injure him. 

A young man had been in custody since Saturday in Brive, Corrèze, suspected of stabbing a police officer without injuring him, during a check in a shopping arcade in the city, we learned on Sunday from police source.

The guards had previously made a report to the police of the man with the threatening attitude which they suspected of theft.

Several stab wounds to the thorax

When the police approached, Saturday around 1430, the suspect exhibited a knife and stabbed a police officer several times in the chest, a police source said.

The policeman was not injured, protected by his jacket.

One of the police officers used his electric pulse gun during the arrest, after which the man was taken into custody, according to the same source.

The Brive public prosecutor's office confirmed on Sunday the custody and ongoing investigations, without initially giving more details on the facts or the profile of the detainee.
