The European Union welcomed the signing of the ceasefire agreement in Libya, while warning that it would impose sanctions on potential spoilers.

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, said in a statement published by his office in Brussels yesterday on behalf of all member states that this complete and permanent ceasefire agreement, which is in effect at the country level, is a crucial step and the result of months of intense regional and international efforts, which It began within the framework of the UN-led Berlin Process.

Borrell stressed that the agreement also includes other important measures, especially the resumption of transport communications between the various regions of Libya and other confidence-building measures, such as a comprehensive disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process, which are necessary for the return of security and stability in Libya, especially the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries within 90 Days.

The European Union and its member states have now encouraged the Libyan parties to fully and immediately implement the ceasefire agreement.

The European Union and its member states called on all international and regional actors to support unequivocally the Libyan efforts, to refrain from foreign intervention in the Libyan conflict, and to stop violations of the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations.
