In 2017, the filmmaker Markus Castro from Mölnlycke chose to follow his life dream and shot his first feature film in the forests outside Uddevalla, without external funding.

The film's budget was 3.6 million and most of the money was taken by Markus Castro from his own company.

Everyone in the production worked for free - the compensation would come when the film began to be shown.

But the interest was cool from Swedish distributors and it was only when the film won awards abroad that things started to move.

Film debut in Sweden

The film is based on the refugee wave in 2015. Monir has fled war-torn Syria and while waiting for information about a residence permit, he is housed in a cabin in the woods.

There he meets Swedish Moa but also becomes aware of his own demons and society's prejudices.

The main character Adel Darwish himself came to Sweden as a refugee and Ghabe was his first acting job here.

Today he is an established actor and currently in the performance "The Nation" at Backa Theater in Gothenburg.

In the clip below, you can see what it looked like when SVT visited the recording in 2017.
