The Ministry of Health and Community Protection revealed that the number of health and pharmaceutical facilities licensed by the Ministry for the government and private sectors increased to 3410, and in terms of the number of workers in the health sector, private and government only, the total number reached 26,931 workers.

The medical industries in the country, in their various fields of medicine, medical equipment and equipment, have made qualitative leaps in the field of quality and enhancing the state’s competitiveness, in cooperation between the concerned authorities in the national medical industries, with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency and achieving health security, based on an ideal investment environment, flexible legislation, and pioneering technological and infrastructure. And the consolidation of intellectual property protection laws and the tendency to rely on artificial intelligence in the manufacture of medical products.

The Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Policy and Licensing Sector, Dr. Amin Hussein Al-Amiri, confirmed the Ministry's cooperation with a working group to study the national medical industries in the country based on the decisions of the Council of Ministers, indicating that work is underway to formulate a policy for the post-Coronavirus phase, and to update the pharmacovigilance policy. And the national drug policy, to keep pace with global developments, stressing that the Ministry gives the medical industries sector, including pharmaceuticals, supplies and medical equipment, a strategic priority to enhance drug and medical security in the UAE, especially during times of crisis and epidemics, to face any emergency conditions that may lead to confusion in supply chains By providing a more attractive and competitive legislative and investment environment with the best facilities and privileges.

Al-Amiri pointed out that the number of local factories licensed by the Ministry amounted to 19 factories, with four factories under registration, in addition to 13 factories that will be registered during the next few years, and there are 83 scientific or marketing offices in the country for international pharmaceutical companies, noting the development of the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. Significantly in recent years as a result of several factors, such as an increase in local production and foreign investment, an increase in similar medicines, and an increase in the size of the market associated with population growth.

He said that the future of the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector in the country will include expanding the base of pharmaceutical products, to include modern technological and biological technologies, enhancing the production of innovative medicines, vaccines and life-saving drugs locally, and manufacturing raw pharmaceutical materials with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency, by encouraging investment in this field.
