Remdesivir, which was used to treat the Ebola virus, has been officially approved by the US as a treatment for coronavirus.

The World Health Organization recently said it had little effect on corona, but the United States recognized it as the first corona treatment.

Correspondent Kim Jong-won from New York delivered more details about the background.

<Reporter> When

President Trump was treated for Corona 19, White House medical staff took remdesivir.

[Doctor in charge at the time of Trump's hospitalization (early October): The president received a remdesivir intravenous injection for the first time yesterday.

We plan to take remdesivir over the next five days.]

Remdesivir is an intravenous antiviral drug originally developed as a treatment for Ebola virus. Urgent approval has been given as a condition for use on patients.

However, this time, with official approval for anyone with corona infection, Remdesivir became the first and only corona treatment approved by the FDA.

However, the World Health Organization WHO recently published a study that questioned the effectiveness of remdesivir's treatment.

[Martin Landray/Professor of Pharmacy and Epidemiology, University of Oxford: Research has shown that there is no effect of remdesivir on the survival rate of corona patients.

Remdesivir doesn't seem to be the solution to the problem we're having.]

Controversy over the effectiveness of remdesivir is still ongoing, including some objections that the WHO's research procedure is problematic.

There are voices of concern that the FDA has urgently approved a drug that has not yet been proven effective at the breath of President Trump, who is still inferior in the face of the presidential election.
