He cut her throat with a knife with an 18-centimeter blade and severed her carotid artery.
All these facts have been declared proven by a popular jury that during the last two weeks tried Ramón Saiz.
With this verdict, they not only found him guilty of a crime of homicide with the aggravations of a particularly vulnerable victim and kinship, but they also overthrew the defense strategy in which he has taken refuge for the last two years: he tried to convince everyone that he was not He killed his wife because he himself made the decision to end her life, as the juries have proven, but because she asked him to do so, becoming a kind of maximum defender of euthanasia.
Doesn't convince the jury
The defendant insisted at the trial that he killed her because it was "what she wanted" and even maintained that it was she herself who chose the knife with which she beheaded.
However, from the first moment, both the Prosecutor's Office and the popular accusation exercised by the Xunta de Galicia and the private accusation exercised by the three children she had from an internal marriage insisted that it was nothing more than an excuse in which he was shielding to try to evade his criminal responsibility.
Ramón's defense attorney came to name that strategy and asked that he be considered the author of a crime of executive suicide assistance, insisting that María Judite expressly and repeatedly asked him to end his life.
The arguments, however, did not convince the jury, who opted for the version that the accusations have defended and in which the lawyer for the victim's children,

Up to seven notes that this lawyer brought to light during the trial overthrew that suicide aid and put before the jurors another scenario that would have occurred at the address of Estrella de A Coruña on July 18, 2018: the defendant did believe the victim that the two would star in a collective suicide for love.
The jury did not name this collective suicide, but in its verdict it does consider it proven that several handwritten notes appeared on the floor in which it was suggested that Ramón would take his own life, and that one of them was signed by both.
The own Provincial Brigade of Scientific Police of A Coruña, in a report, summarizes that these notes express "wishes of a common suicide, expressing last wishes to the family."

Severe depression
The jury, in addition to denying that version that would make him the hero of the story, considers proven the special vulnerability of the victim, who since she had a relationship with the defendant had cooled ties with her three children - they were unaware, for example , as the jury declares, that she had attempted suicide seven days before the crime.
Thus, they consider it proven that she presented a picture of severe depression, weighed only 38 kilos and was taking strong medication.
During the trial, she was also presented as an abused and abused person.
The A Coruña Court must pass sentence with the sentence imposed on the accused based on this verdict of guilt.
The three accusations (Prosecutor's Office, Xunta and her family) ask that he be convicted of homicide with the hyperqualified aggravating circumstance of being a particularly vulnerable victim, the aggravating circumstances of kinship and gender and the extenuating confession to 22 years in prison.
For its part, the defendant's defense recognizes the homicide, but believes that there is a repentance in this case - the defendant called his sister and 112 for recognizing the crime - which must be taken into account as a highly qualified mitigating circumstance and requests a conviction less than half, 10 years in prison.
