Historical capital of the Baoulés, one of the main ethnic groups in the country, Bouaké is a city of a million and a half inhabitants located in the heart of Côte d'Ivoire and at the confluence of roads to Mali and Burkina Faso .

Occupied by the New Forces, a coalition of rebel movements, from 2002 to 2010, Bouaké struggled to abandon its image as the capital of the rebellion.

Ten years after the post-election crisis, the scars of the war are still visible.

But the city, like its inhabitants, wants to draw a line on this painful past.

Renovation work is increasing: a new stadium, markets, new housing.

And many residents cling to the hope of national reconciliation.
