The head of government was speaking at the end of a new defense council held on the subject at the Elysee Palace, the second since the assassination of Samuel Paty, in which the Ministers of Justice participated in particular, Éric Dupond-Moretti, and from the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.

These measures will be added to the bill on separatism which will be before Parliament by the end of the year, said Jean Castex before giving details.

Jean Castex thus announced "the strengthening of the protection of civil servants and public officials by penalizing those who put pressure on them and on the functioning of public services by words or behavior".

He took as an example what "happened in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine against Mr. Paty and the principal of the college" of Bois d'Aulne.

"Second, the possibility of sanctioning those who post personal information endangering the life of others online", continued the Prime Minister. 

"The monitoring of social networks and the fight against online hatred will be intensified," he added, with an "immediate" strengthening of the staff of the Pharos reporting platform and the creation of a specific pole for the prosecution. of Paris "to centralize prosecutions and therefore improve their efficiency".

56 home visits and 27 arrests

Jean Castex announced that "56 home visits" had been made after the assassination of teacher Samuel Paty and that 27 arrests had taken place after reports of online content.

"123 home visits have been decided and 56 have already been carried out," said the Prime Minister during a brief press briefing.

"1,279 reports to the Pharos platform, a specialized service responsible for collecting illegal reports on the Internet, led to 27 arrests," he added.

The Prime Minister did not report on the other hand a possible "offense of separatism" evoked in recent hours by the media.

But Jean Castex announced that another defense council would be convened soon.

Since the attack last Friday in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, the executive has promised to lead a "flawless" fight against radical Islamism, "an ideology of destruction of the Republic" in the terms used Tuesday by Emmanuel Macron.
