The very delicate rescue operation mobilized around thirty firefighters and a Civil Security helicopter.

Shortly after noon on Thursday, the driver of a truck was seriously injured after his vehicle overturned on a bend leading to Alpe d'Huez, in Isère.

After falling into a ravine, the tar carried by the heavy truck spilled into the driver's cabin.

The hot mix then spread over the conductor and then solidified around his body, reports

Le Dauphiné Libéré.

Tools were deployed at the scene of the accident to break up the tar and free the victim, in his 40s.

Once released, the driver, conscious when help arrived and second-degree burns on his legs, was taken to hospital in serious condition.
