Jean-Michel Blanquer, the Minister of National Education, launched an education Grenelle to put the teacher back at the heart of society.

At the microphone of Europe Morning, Benoît Teste, the spokesperson for the FSU, is however concerned about the lack of resources allocated, in particular to revalue salaries.

INTERVIEW

The day after the national homage paid to Samuel Paty on Wednesday, the Grenelle de l'Education began.

This long-planned meeting takes on another meaning in this context.

Protection of teachers, working conditions, future of school education… These are all themes that must be addressed.

"We are obviously happy that a debate is taking place on the idea that teachers must be recognized. We have always carried it, but we are not convinced of the link between what will happen in the Grenelle as such, where we discuss the whole of civil society, and what will happen in terms of financial translation ", points to the microphone of Europe Matin Benoît Teste, the spokesperson for the main central teachers' union, the FSU.

For this union official, the upgrading of the role of the teacher must first go through the release of a significant budget.

"Jean-Michel Blanquer did not use the word 'programming law'. He relies on the fact that this year, in the 2021 budget, are entered 400 million euros [dedicated to the revaluation of the remuneration of teachers,

], but in view of the number of staff concerned, it is quite little, "said Benoît Teste.

"It will only allow you to revalue the beginning of your career to the tune of a hundred euros per month."

"Schools are not on fire either"

Regarding safety in establishments, Benoist Teste believes that the murder of Samuel Paty must raise the question of protection inside but also around schools, without going overboard.

“Security responses cannot be the alpha and omega of what we do. The answer is education in all circumstances. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't strengthen security, especially in the face of threats. "

The FSU spokesperson also insisted on the necessary support from the hierarchy to pressure.

"The testimonies of teachers say that there are tensions, there are challenges to secularism. There are challenges to certain teachings," he assures us.

"But this is not to say either that the school would fail to cope with these challenges. The schools are not on fire either and do not require a reinforced intervention of the security forces. "
