An informed Sudanese source told Al-Jazeera correspondent that a video conference is expected to be held today, Friday, in which US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will participate with the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok.
The source pointed out that the conference's ceremonies will be limited to exchanging congratulations on the decision to remove Sudan from the American list of states sponsoring terrorism.
He added that Hamdok will announce that the issue of normalization with Israel will await a decision from the transitional legislative council expected to be formed soon in Sudan.
The same source confirmed that Khartoum had asked to separate the path of removing Sudan from the American list of states sponsoring terrorism from the path of normalizing relations with Israel.
He added that the Sudanese transitional government had taken all guarantees and pledges that this settlement would be completed by legislation from the US Congress that restores immunity to the State of Sudan from prosecution before US courts.
He pointed out that the financial compensation - paid by Sudan in favor of the victims of the bombing of the destroyer Cole and the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam - will not be delivered to those who deserve it before next February, as all steps to remove Sudan from the American list are completed.
Reuters quoted two senior Sudanese government sources, on Thursday, as saying that Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok will approve steps to establish relations with Israel, provided that the transitional parliament approves this after its formation.
The two sources said that Khartoum's warning reflects fears that such a major step in terms of foreign policy could spoil the delicate balance between the army and civilians, and endanger the government.
The US State Department said in a statement that Secretary Mike Pompeo praised, in a telephone conversation with Hamdok, Thursday, "his efforts so far to improve Sudan's relationship with Israel, and expressed his hope that it would continue."
The statement added that Pompeo and Hamdok welcomed President Trump's commitment to proceed with removing Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
