People who are 70 years and older can now follow the same corona advice as the rest of society.

In Thursday's Aktuellt, Anders Tegnell explains how the message should be interpreted.

Celebrating Christmas with others is fine - as long as it is only with close relatives.

- A small family party with children and grandchildren, especially if you can keep your distance, certainly does not involve any major risks, he says.

Reasonable with healthy hugs

At the same time, Tegnell warns of major events:

- Huge family parties where you meet people you do not meet otherwise is still inappropriate.

Can you now even hug your children and grandchildren?

- We think it is reasonable to take the step towards that type of physical contact - provided of course that the children are completely healthy, he answers.

Anders Tegnell cannot answer exactly how small a family party should be.

- The idea is to create as few new contacts as possible.

If you have a basic family that is about 10-15 people, then it must be okay, he says.

Not the right time this summer

That the relief for 70+ has not come before is due to the fact that the infection situation has been too unclear, Tegnell says.

- Immediately after the summer, it was not the right time at all.

It was very unclear how the infection would spread during the autumn, and then we wanted to see how it developed, he says.

"A group that had a hard time"

Despite the fact that Sweden is now seeing an increase in cases, Tegnell believes that we are in a completely different situation than last spring.

- Despite the fact that we have this increase, we have a completely different spread in society.

Then we actually think that there is room for a group that has had a very difficult time, he says.
