Donald Trump, 74, aims to reconfirm his presidential term.
It aims to collect the votes of rural areas, of the currents of white supremacy, but also of the African American electorate.
The president presents himself as the "Law and Order" and anti-establishment candidate.
Let's see, in detail, his electoral program, based on what was presented on the White House website.
Covid-19 Emergency
The most pressing problem that the next President will face is how to reduce the effects of the pandemic on citizenship and the economy.
Trump has taken a stance on the issue that has attracted much criticism.
He
admitted that he has downplayed the danger of the virus
, but remains ambiguous about the use of masks.
He continues to say he is
against the obligation to wear them
(even after
contracting Covid
),
leaving it to individual states to decide whether, how and when to use them.
But he called on his supporters to
use individual protections
.
As for diagnostic tests, the current tenant of the White House delegates to individual states, complaining on some occasions that the bad numbers of infections in the US are caused by an excess of tests.
The president has on several occasions
also challenged the virologist Anthony Fauci
, head of the White House task force for the Covid emergency.
Climate change
During his presidency, Donald Trump
excluded the US from
the 2015
Paris Agreement
. With him, the US has no longer been the leader in the global fight against climate change.
Trump has appointed a man who does not believe that climate change is a top priority as head of the EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency).
Additionally, the Trump administration has encouraged the opening of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil and gas exploration.
If re-elected, the current US president would continue on this path in the fight against climate change.
Economy
The Trump presidency's main economic policy achievement was the
2017 tax cut,
which drastically reduced rates for businesses and citizens.
However, this cut led to a nearly $ 1 trillion increase in the federal budget deficit in 2019. All of this then broke the President's campaign promise to reduce the deficit and eliminate national debt.
Donald Trump has said he will continue along this path, as tax cuts have contributed to a record rise in the stock market.
Furthermore, the unemployment rate for these four years has remained low.
The President opposes globalization and trade.
This is why he waged trade wars with countries he defined as "enemies", imposing duties on goods coming from these nations (
China
, the
EU
).
Finally, Trump would prefer bilateral trade deals;
in fact, it has already entered into this type of agreement with Japan, Canada and Mexico.
Education
The Trump administration has promised to pay off student loan debt.
The White House has also made the forgiveness of loans for veterans automatic.
However, he has continually proposed to end the student loan forgiveness program for public workers.
Additionally, President Trump canceled several of the Obama administration's policies regarding education.
These include promoting racial diversity and providing protection for transgender students in public schools.
He also endorsed the new rule of Education Secretary DeVos, which would complicate reporting procedures for those who are sexually abused at school.
Weapons
After several mass shootings in the US, Donald Trump promised action against gun violence but was vague about the details.
He has only ever asserted that the underlying problems of the shootings are only about mental health and hatred.
Finally, the president banned the purchase of equipment to transform rifles into semi-automatic ones.
Health
Trump has
threatened the US exit from the World Health Organization
, accused of being synocentric.
On 12 October, he also signed an executive order for the
cancellation and replacement of the ACA
, better known as Obamacare.
The President asked drug makers to include their list prices in TV ads, but this decision was overruled by a federal judge in summer 2019.
Finally, in an effort to cut healthcare costs, Trump enacted a rule which requires hospitals to publish privately negotiated rates with health insurers.
This would come into effect from 2021. However, a coalition of major hospital groups has taken legal action against the White House initiative.
Immigration
With regard to immigration, the president has decided to continue with a "zero tolerance" policy.
He therefore proposed the construction of the wall on the US - Mexico border.
In addition, he established the
Travel Ban
in order to restrict the entry of Muslims into the United States.
With its "zero tolerance" policy, it has led to the separation of thousands of children from their parents, who entered illegally from the Mexican border.
Donald Trump would also like to end the DACA, which protects children who entered the country illegally when still minors.
The Supreme Court, however, denied his request.
Now Trump would like to establish a "citizenship path" for the Dreamers, based however on merit.
Finally, Trump proposes a merit-based immigration system in the program, limiting family reunification as a motivation for entry.
