During the summer, Borgholm Energi was forced to take measures when water consumption soared around Byxelkrok and the surrounding area.

- We had to support deliveries in that network to be able to deliver water to all customers.

We have not had to do this for many years, says Borgholm Energi's CEO Markus Wertwein-Ros.

Abnormal differences

Markus Wertwein-Ros, explains that they usually have peaks in water consumption during Öland's high season, but that during this year they have seen differences that are not common.

Water consumption was unusually high from the end of March.

Between the end of March and July, there was an increase of 70 percent compared with the previous year.

- It was a higher basic consumption than it usually is.

We have our peaks, but the basic consumption is usually quite stable, says Markus Wertwein-Ros.

Since September, consumption is at normal levels again.

Suspected leaks

Borgholm Energi first suspected that the increased water consumption could be due to leaks in the pipeline network.

A leak search work was carried out but they did not find any major leaks that could be the explanation.

One of the reasons for the increased consumption may be that many have moved to their holiday homes on Öland during the corona pandemic.

- That's probably one of the reasons, yes.

Those who have been in the area say that there have been more people in the area than there usually are.

Shops and so on have also had more visitors, he says.
