On Wednesday, the criminal court of Béziers (Hérault) sentenced two men of 23 and 24 years old respectively to 3 and 4 years in prison, for having bought shotguns, by presenting false documents.

The two defendants, who were in a state of recidivism, were also fined 1,000 euros each, and a ban on holding a weapon for five years.

These two men appeared for having bought seven shotguns in two armories in Béziers and one in Montpellier, last July, "by using a false identity and false documents with which they had deceived the gunsmiths", indicates the prosecution.

They had also tried, without success, to obtain other weapons of this type from two other armories, in Pézenas and Clermont-l'Hérault.

Alerted by one of the gunsmiths, the police had informed the prosecution, which had opened an investigation into the illegal acquisition, possession and transport of category C weapons and fraud.

Two individuals had been identified, including one, a 23-year-old man, already convicted on multiple occasions for acts of violence, theft and traffic offenses.

The other individual, a 24-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a car theft for which he was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

According to the prosecution, the latter admitted to having used a false identity to buy the weapons, "while affirming to have acted on the indications of a third unidentified man who would have promised to pay him a hundred euros per weapon purchased. and who would have recovered the weapons ”.
