“To ensure greater transparency of the influence of the Chinese Communist Party in the United States, I have declared six more PRC propaganda media as foreign missions,” he wrote on Twitter.

Pompeo added that Americans "have a right to know" what kind of media they are and "who they work for."

The State Department said in a statement that Yicai Global, Jiefang Daily, Xinmin Evening News, Social Sciences in China Press, Beijing Review and Economic Daily are now considered foreign missions.

The US Foreign Office emphasized that these media are "owned or controlled" by the Chinese government.

At the end of June, the United States recognized the Chinese publications China Central Television, China News Service, The People's Daily and the Global Times as "foreign missions".

In August, the Chinese Confucius Institute was also declared a foreign mission by the United States.
