Thousands of IS members and their families were captured in the fighting as the Kurdish-led SDF forces captured Baghouz in northeastern Syria.

The men were imprisoned, while women and children ended up in the Al Hol and Roj concentration camps.

IS members imprisoned in overcrowded camps

Today, about 70,000 people are being held in the Al Hol and Roj concentration camps in Rojava in northeastern Syria.

43,000 are children.

In the overcrowded camps, there is a shortage of medical care, food and water, and security is also deficient.

Female IS supporters have continued to practice the ideology of the terrorist sect and punished other women who were considered to have broken the rules.

Testimonies of murder, rape and assault have flowed out of the camps.

At the same time, hundreds of children have died due to the deplorable humanitarian conditions in Al Hol.

Swedish women have escaped

Several Swedish women have also escaped from the Al Hol camp.

Some have been captured by the Syrian army and imprisoned in Damascus, others have gone to Turkey where they have been arrested by Turkish authorities, or returned to Sweden.

At the same time, the Kurdish-led autonomy in Rojava is struggling with major economic problems.

In early October, it was decided that 25,000 Syrians would be released from Al Hol to ease the pressure in the overcrowded camp.

Those who remain are mainly the foreign citizens in the camp.

In the past, 4,000 Syrians have been released from the camp in cooperation with local clans whose leaders have guaranteed that they will monitor that those released will not join IS again.
