October 20, 2020 Ten years after the Gulf-Moscow law on pink quotas, women on the boards of listed companies have gone from 7.4% to 36.4%, but have not produced a direct impact on management: female presidents are 10.7% and 6.3% of the managing directors.

Working to bridge the gender gap has always been the goal of Coding Girls, historically promoted by the Digital World Foundation and US Diplomatic Mission in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft, also supported by Eni, Compagnia di San Paolo and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Coding Girls are back

For the seventh consecutive year, through an educational alliance between 100 upper secondary school classes and 32 academic partners, the program reaches 15,000 female students in 24 cities in the current school year, spreading across all regions.

Raising awareness among young women on the importance of their contribution to the country's economic and sustainable growth is the goal of the program, not only with training and coding competitions between schools, but also orientation sessions with university tutors and motivational meetings with 'role model '

The gender gap to be bridged

The presence of women in scientific and technological sectors characterized by skills shortages must be strengthened, overcoming stereotypes and prejudices that also affect the new generations.

According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2020 of the World Economic Forum, in fact, it will take 99.5 years to bridge the gender gap in the world, while the gender gap in the context of participation and economic opportunities in the world will require another 257 years to be cleared.

It is progressing too slowly, and this affects the opportunities for the younger generation of girls.

Italy ranks 76th out of 153 countries, approximately in the middle of the table and 17th out of 20 Western European countries.

They are well positioned on education and health, but lag behind on employment, wages and leadership.

Women study more, participate in cultural life, but favor studies that have less employment and salary prospects.

The school to achieve equality

For Mirta Michilli, co-founder of the Coding Girls Association and general director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, "we are increasingly convinced that the winning strategy to accelerate the achievement of gender equality is the school, as an effective defense against any form of inequality.

We help the new generations to free themselves from clichés and stereotypes to plan their future freely.

With experiential and transformative training courses and constant confrontation with positive models, girls acquire awareness of their potential.

Around Coding Girls we are forging an original alliance built on a strong common vision and the belief that distributed female leadership is urgently needed to grow the country.

A real gentle and inclusive revolution ".
