Efforts and endeavors

Russia - the powerful regional power - has intensified its calls for a ceasefire since the start of the fighting on September 27 in Nagorny Karabakh, the Armenian majority, which separated from Azerbaijan with the collapse of the Soviet Union;

This caused a war that left 30 thousand people dead.

Sergey Lavrov described the continuation of the clashes as "unacceptable," and last Monday indicated that Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia are working to put in place a mechanism to monitor the ceasefire "soon."

In parallel political developments, the office of Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said that he went to Brussels to discuss the conflict in the Karabakh region with NATO and European Union officials.

He added that Sarkissian will meet during the visit NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, European Union foreign policy official Josep Borrell and European Council President Charles Michel.

He added that Armenia expects the leaders of NATO and the European Union to "do everything possible" to stop the fighting and "revive" the ceasefire agreement.
