Pompeo Hopes Sudan "Quickly" Recognize Israel

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed his hope that Sudan would quickly recognize Israel, and confirmed that the United States had begun the process of removing Sudan from the list of states sponsoring terrorism.

"We continue to work actively with Sudan to show why it is in the Sudanese government's interest to make this sovereign decision. We hope they will, and we hope they will do it quickly," Pompeo told reporters.

On the Syrian issue, Pompeo said that the United States will not change its policy towards Syria to secure the release of journalist Austin Tice and other American detainees.

He added, "We call on the Syrians to release Tice ... They choose not to do so. We will continue to work for the return of every detained American, not just Austin. We will not change US policy to achieve this."
