The official portal of the UAE government stated that citizens and residents, who have reached the legal age and possess the appropriate medical fitness, can obtain a permit to learn to drive and apply for a driving license, pointing out that the minimum age required to issue a driving license depends on the type of vehicle.

She explained that the minimum age required to obtain a license to drive bicycles and vehicles for people of determination is 17 years, to obtain a license to drive cars and light vehicles is 18 years, to obtain a license to drive heavy vehicles (trucks) and tractors, to 20 years, and to obtain a bus driving license is 21 years.

She stated that to obtain a driver's license, a citizen or resident must apply to one of the approved driving schools, to obtain training sessions and pass all required tests, and after completing all training sessions and passing all tests, applicants from citizens and residents can obtain a driving license. New, valid for two years, and a driver’s license applicant can start all procedures from one of the approved driving schools.

She explained that the driver's license is renewed for a period of 10 years for citizens and citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and five years for residents, noting that traffic departments provide a driver's license renewal service online.

She noted that the driver's license renewal must pay traffic fines, and a fine of 10 dirhams per month will be imposed in the event that the driver’s license renewal is delayed for more than a month.

It is worth noting that the executive regulations of the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law approved amendments to the procedures for granting and renewing driver's licenses in the country, as the validity of the renewed driver's license was set at 10 years for citizens and five years for residents, while the validity of the new driving license, which is issued for the first time, is two years.

The regulations obligated drivers to stipulate that they be free from diseases that may hinder or negatively affect their ability to drive, according to a certificate from the competent health authorities in the country.

Violations

Not carrying a driver's license: 400 dirhams.

Driving a vehicle other than the license granted: 400

AED and 12 traffic points.

Driving a vehicle with a driving license issued by a state

If a student commits it while teaching driving, he is considered a failure, the most important of which are:

If he causes actual danger to himself or others.

If it causes potential danger to himself or others.

- If the vehicle’s body parts or wheels touch the established borders or barriers.

- If the vehicle moved at the start of the launch due to lack of control.

- If a mistake is made in the process of changing the transmission (gear).

- If he is unable to stop the vehicle or park it in the specified location.

If he violates traffic lights and signs.

- If the foot of the applicant for a motorcycle driving license touches the ground while driving.

- If the avoidance of actual or potential risk was a result of the examiner's oral or practical intervention during the examination.
