The skull that was reburied on Wednesday belonged to a Sami man from the Lyckselet area and has been part of the Department of Anatomy's bone collection at Uppsala University.

The bone material was collected in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The burial took place in Lycksele at Berglunda cemetery on Wednesday and is the fifth repatriation, or reburial, of Sami remains ever.

A memorial will later be erected on the site.

- It is both sad and at the same time gratifying, says Ingrid Inga, chair of the Sami Parliament's culture committee who attended the ceremony.
