Gargash confirms the firm position of the UAE in support of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Anwar bin Muhammad Gargash, met the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philip Lazzarini, where Gargash confirmed the centrality of the Agency's support for Palestinian refugees to provide a decent living for them, as well as the UAE’s firm position on Support the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause within the Arab consensus and agreed upon references.

The talks focused on the challenges facing the agency in the field and humanitarian, especially in light of the developments imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic on the agency's frameworks and work.

The meeting between Dr. Gargash and Lazarini, which took place today at the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi, also dealt with the UAE's support for the agency, which has been presiding over its advisory board since last July, and based on the UAE's firm commitment to the Palestinian people, in a way that contributes to strengthening the activities. UNRWA provides educational and health care activities to Palestinian refugees, and in maintaining regional security and stability.

It is noteworthy that the Emirati aid provided to UNRWA during the years of 2013 exceeded $ 218 million, as a contribution by the UAE in strengthening the agency’s role in caring for Palestinian refugees, and included the education, health and social services sectors.

The UAE currently occupies the position of Chairman of the Agency's Advisory Committee, and it sets its sights on developing a strategy based on four areas: digitizing education, empowering women and girls, empowering youth, and environmental sustainability.

During the meeting, Gargash touched on the importance of moving the peace process and reaching a settlement of the Palestinian issue on the basis of international justice, the necessity of rebuilding mutual trust between the two parties to the conflict, and the parties concerned with the peace process and the sponsoring parties to make every possible effort to create conditions conducive to reviving the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, and on the basis of agreed terms of reference. Within the two-state solution to enhance peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
