The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, said that he agreed during his talks with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiades, on the need to respond to what he described as provocative policies that undermine stability.

This came in a joint press conference during a summit of the three parties in Nicosia, Cyprus, today, Wednesday, in light of tension in the eastern Mediterranean region.

Al-Sisi stressed during talks with his Cypriot counterpart the need to intensify consultations on issues and files of common interest, through the tripartite cooperation mechanism, which brings together Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.

A spokesman for the Egyptian presidency said that the tripartite summit stresses the need to continue implementing joint projects within the framework of this mechanism, and to address challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East regions.

For his part, the Cypriot president said that the trilateral relations between Cyprus, Egypt and Greece are not directed against any country.

Tension reducing mechanism

In the meantime, Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that the mechanism for reducing tension between Turkey and Greece should be the basis for resolving any problems or disputes in the eastern Mediterranean region, indicating that the two sides agreed on a mechanism to reduce the potential dangers of a military clash So that the situation does not get out of control.

Stoltenberg added - in a press briefing in Brussels, today, Wednesday, in which he spoke about the agenda of the meeting of NATO defense ministers over the next two days - that Greece and Turkey are important allies of NATO, and tension must be reduced and any possible incidents between the allies must be avoided.
