- Sweden should take an objective attitude and deal with its wrong decision to avoid negative consequences for Swedish companies in China, says Zhao Lijian, spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry at a press conference in Beijing.

The statement is made since the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) on Tuesday closed the door for products from Chinese Huawei and ZTE in Swedish 5G networks.

Huewei and ZTE are ported in 5G

According to PTS, which made the decision in consultation with Säpo and the Swedish Armed Forces, products from Huawei and ZTE may not be used in new installation and new implementation of central functions for radio use in the affected frequency bands.

It is for security reasons that Sweden chooses to block Chinese products.

"China is one of the biggest threats to Sweden," writes Säpo chief Klas Friberg in a comment on Tuesday.

Auction in three weeks

Potential 5G operators also have a little over four years to remove existing equipment from the Chinese telecom manufacturers, the authority adds.

The decision has been made by PTS ahead of the auction of Swedish 5G frequencies, which will take place on November 10 and is expected to take about 10 days.
