The United States and the European Union have different preferred candidates over the issue of appointing the WTO's new secretary-general, Bloomberg reported.

The news agency reported that among South Korea's head of trade negotiations Myung-hee Myung-hee and Nigerian candidate Ngoji Okonjoyweala, US President Trump favors Candidate Yu Myung-hee.

The European Union, on the other hand, says it is leaning towards the Nigerian candidate and may soon formalize its intentions.

The US government is known to dislike the Nigerian candidate because he is too close to a free trader.

However, it is analyzed that the position of the U.S. government may change if Biden takes power in the November U.S. presidential election.

This communication pointed out that since the WTO secretary-general is unanimously elected by the 164 member states, it is difficult to be elected if any one country opposes until the end.
