Until the end of December, only four scheduled flights are planned to take off from Småland Airport in Växjö.

When SVT Småland visits the airport, the waiting hall is empty.

No flights are visible.

- We had 22 destinations last year.

Now we have one.

It is a strange feeling to walk around an airport without passengers, says CEO Ulf Axelsson.

Then it can turn around

The state support means that the airport's estimated deficit of close to SEK 30 million is reduced.

At the same time, they are hoping that passengers will start coming back in 2021, when several lines will start again.

Flights to Stockholm, Poland, Amsterdam and charters to Cyprus, Spain and Greece are planned.

Even before Christmas, charter flights to Gran Canaria start from Växjö.

- 2020 is a lost year.

2021 will be tough.

But I think it will turn around at the end of next year, says Ulf Axelsson.
