Anders Tegnell states that the situation in Europe continues to deteriorate.

- Now, healthcare in more and more countries is also starting to be hit harder and harder.

No dramatic increase in nursing homes

In Sweden, the burden on healthcare is not yet at a high level, although it can vary greatly locally.

The Swedish Public Health Agency also does not see any dramatic increase in the number of people infected in nursing homes.

This is despite the fact that the spread of infection is higher.

Tuesday's summary shows four new reported deaths in covid-19 and just over 3,000 new cases.

- Unfortunately, we have a negative development in more and more places.

It is important to keep track now so that we do not end up in the situation that many other countries have ended up in, says Tegnell.

Stricter advice for Uppsala

One of the regions with the largest increase in the spread of infection is Uppsala.

The Swedish Public Health Agency has therefore, in consultation with infection control doctors in Uppsala, decided to introduce stricter general advice in the region.

- This applies to public transport and social contacts.

In practice, we say that you should avoid physical contact with others than people you live with, you should refrain from both participating in and arranging parties and you should refrain from using public transport as much as possible, says Anders Tegnell.

The advice is valid for two weeks with the possibility of extension.

They include various activities such as shops, sports facilities and workplaces.

However, it is not relevant to advise against traveling to and from Uppsala.

May be relevant in more places

- We do not rule out that this may be relevant in more regions.

What is happening in Uppsala now that we do not see in other places is an increased pressure on healthcare, says Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist at the Swedish Public Health Agency.

In Kronoberg, the hospitals in Växjö and Ljungby have gone up to staff after the number of covid patients has increased in recent days.
