Celebration all'Aracoeli

Pope Francis made his entrance in the Roman basilica of Aracoeli, for the moment of religious reflection common to all Christians of all confessions, be they Catholics, Orthodox or Protestants, which anticipates the 'Prayer for Peace' on the Capitoline Hill which follows the intervention of representatives of all religions, from Christians to Jews, from Muslims to Buddhists, in addition to the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella.

With the Pontiff, who pronounces the homily, also Bartholomew I ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople.

Pope Francis arrived wearing a white mask to the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli for the ecumenical prayer as part of the Meeting for Peace organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio.

The Pope then goes to the Capitol for the final ceremony which ends with the signing of a common appeal for peace.

It is the first time that Francis wears a mask in a public celebration.

Only once, before a general audience, in the courtyard of San Damaso, the photographers had caught Pope Bergoglio with the mask, but removed immediately before the beginning of the meeting with the faithful.
