The Emir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, called on his citizens to adhere to the well-established national fundamentals, the most important of which is national unity, in a speech he delivered before Parliament before the parliamentary elections scheduled for next December 5.

The Emir of Kuwait added, at the opening of the supplementary session of the National Assembly, that national unity proved that it was the most powerful weapon in the face of challenges.

The Emir, who took power last month after the death of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said, "Our national unity has proven over the years that it is our most powerful weapon in facing challenges, dangers and crises."

He added, "We affirm our continuation of the late prince's approach ... and affirm our commitment to democracy, the constitution and the rule of law."

For his part, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said at the opening of the supplementary session of the National Assembly, that Kuwait will continue its good endeavors to resolve the Gulf dispute that has harmed the interests of the Gulf states.

In his speech, Al-Sabah added that his country will continue to support the Gulf Cooperation Council, as it is a framework that achieves interests and meets the aspirations of the Gulf peoples.

Central issue

Al-Sabah also stressed that the Palestinian issue is the central issue, stressing that Kuwait stands on the side of the Palestinian people and supports their options, saying, "We are aware of the size of the grave challenges at the level of events in our region, which requires action to preserve our security."

He affirmed that Kuwait will continue to strive for good and peace, and "at the Gulf level, we will continue the good endeavors to resolve the disagreement that arose between the brothers, which weakened our unity and harmed our gains."

The director of the Al-Jazeera office, Saad Al-Saidi, from within the Kuwaiti National Assembly, said that this is the first word of the Emir of the country at the opening of the supplementary session of the National Assembly, indicating that on the same day the session will end, and then the work of the National Assembly will be terminated permanently until the holding of new elections and the formation of a new government.

Al-Saeidy indicated that the speech of the Emir of Kuwait urged Kuwaitis to make good choices during the elections, stressing respect for the constitution and the law to make the elections a success.
