- We need electrical energy to convert the forest into products that we sell on the world market, says Nils Ringborg, responsible for the wind power project on Holmen.

- It is estimated that electricity use will increase by 60 percent in the future and then we think this is a good chance for us to be part of the solution, he continues.

Must secure the electricity supply

Hydropower in northern Sweden has traditionally been an important supplier of electricity to the whole of Sweden.

Now that the electricity demand is forecast to increase, there are fears that the lines from the north will not be enough.

It is also a reason why Holmen wants to invest in wind power in Östergötland.

The company already has interests in wind power, for example in the vicinity of Skellefteå.

290 meters high

As the plans look today, there are a total of 77 new wind turbines of 290 meters in three areas, a smaller one northwest of Finspång and two larger ones west of road 55 between Norrköping and Katrineholm.

The power plants that Holmen is currently planning should be able to deliver 1.9 TWh, which corresponds to approximately 30 percent of Östergötland's entire electricity needs.

Another comparison is that it is as much as the municipalities of Norrköping and Finspång use for one year.
