20 October 2020 "Out of 492 tests carried out in the last two days at the Giro d'Italia, two cyclists tested positive", writes the organization of the RCS Sport race in a note.

"A UAE Team Emirates rider tested positive for Covid-19 and was entrusted to the team doctor who ordered the isolation measures and took the necessary actions, in accordance with the rules of the World Health Organization" .

The other positive is a staff member of the AG2R-La Mondiale Team, for which the same measures have been taken.

The positive cyclist is Fernando Gaviria, while his companions and staff members have received a negative result and will continue the "Corsa Rosa". The team writes on its website announcing: "The medical staff of the team is following the situation carefully, putting in place everything necessary to ensure a safe continuation. After receiving the test response, Gaviria was immediately placed in isolation: he is in good health and completely asymptomatic. He had already tested positive for the virus in March ".
