Curfew hours extended in Jordan and new measures to contain Corona

The Jordanian government decided to extend curfew hours and take new measures to contain the emerging corona virus, which has begun to record records.

Jordanian Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh said in a press conference that "the night curfew will be extended from next Saturday, as it will start from ten in the evening for institutions and eleven in the evening for individuals and until six in the morning."

Currently, the curfew begins at midnight for facilities and the first morning for individuals until six in the morning.

He added, "Every Friday, a comprehensive curfew will be imposed," noting that "these measures will continue until the end of this year."

Al-Khasawneh explained that "education in universities, schools, cultural centers and vocational training centers will remain remotely until the end of the current semester."

He stressed that "restaurants and cafes will operate at 50 percent of their capacity, and not exceed six people at one table," noting that "cafes have to work abroad in summer and winter."

He added, "We know that these measures will have a difficult impact, but are necessary for public safety."

And after it succeeded in reducing injuries in the spring and summer, Jordan has witnessed since the beginning of September a record high number of injuries.

Jordan recorded 34 new deaths from the virus, which brought the total death toll to 414, while 2035 new cases of the virus were recorded, bringing the total number of infections to 40,972.

For his part, Jordanian Minister of Health, Nazir Obeidat, affirmed that "taking these measures was necessary to curb the increase in the number of injuries and the pressure they cause on hospitals."

He added, "If we remain without taking measures, we expect that the number of injuries will increase to reach three thousand cases or even more."
