The American Airlines company plans to put its Boeing 737 MAX back into service by the end of 2020. The plane is still awaiting the green light from the authorities to fly back after two accidents which killed 346 people in 2019.

The return to the sky "remains entirely dependent on the re-certification process of the FAA", the US aviation agency, said American Airlines in a statement Monday.

But for the airline to function properly, “our crew members must be able to plan their schedules”.

Pilot training required

American therefore plans for the moment to fly the Boeing 737 MAX once a day between December 29 and January 4, on Miami-New York routes.

Tickets will open for booking on October 24, and customers will be informed that they will be flying a 373 MAX a priori.

For the rest, American continues to assess the situation with the FAA and Boeing.

There are still several steps before the FAA cancels the immobilization order for the 737 MAX, banned from flying worldwide since mid-March 2019. The companies will then have to implement a training program for their pilots.

In early October, the FAA published its recommendations for pilot training.

These measures are open for comment until November 2.
