“Practice while waiting for foreign athletes” Tokyo Olympics / Para Competition Group October 20, 18:58

A liaison conference between the government and competition groups will be held for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, and the competition groups will practice during the waiting period after entering Japan to make it easier for foreign athletes to participate in international competitions held in Japan. Opinions were given asking them to do it.

The liaison conference was attended online by Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Hashimoto, Secretary Murofushi of the Japan Sports Agency, and representatives of 45 sports organizations.

At the beginning, Minister Hashimoto said, "I am very pleased that the sports world is gradually regaining its vitality, and I look forward to the expansion of efforts to balance infectious disease control and sports."

After that, he reported that the restrictions were relaxed under certain conditions for athletes who returned from overseas, and that they could now practice even during the 14-day waiting period.

In addition, Mr. Murofushi said, "We would like to provide the necessary support as the Japan Sports Agency in order to dispatch athletes aiming for the Tokyo tournament overseas and to hold international tournaments safely in Japan."

On the other hand, from the competition group side, when athletes returning from overseas practice during the waiting period, it is easy for foreign athletes to participate in international competitions held in Japan and to allow them to move by public transportation. Therefore, there were opinions requesting that they be able to practice even during the waiting period after entering Japan.
