The Tunisian government authorizes all governors to declare curfews from tomorrow

Tunisian Prime Minister Hicham El-Mechichi authorized, today, Monday, all governors to announce a curfew in their regions from tomorrow, Tuesday.

The Tunisian News Agency stated that this came during a working session held by the government this morning, in the presence of the Minister of Interior and a number of senior security leaders, at the Government Palace in the Kasbah.

The latest update of the Ministry of Health in Tunisia revealed a new jump in the number of new infections with the Coronavirus, reaching more than 5,700 new infections between 13 and 16 October.

And 114 infected people died from the virus during the same period, bringing the total number of deaths in Tunisia from the virus to 626 since last February.

According to the agency, the session touched in particular on the security situation in the country and the events that took place in the city of Al Shaba following the recent decisions of the Tunisian Football League and the extent of citizens' compliance with the curfew measures.

During this session, Al-Mushashi was briefed on the progress of research into the Sbeitla booth incident, calling for the need to implement the law and hold accountable all those proven involved.

The city of Al-Shaba (Mahdia Province) witnessed, on Saturday / Sunday night, protests pervaded all its streets, during which a number of rubber wheels were burned, and a number of citizens in the city organized a march during which they raised banners condemning the university's decisions.

Many national and central associations and organizations also issued statements of support for the young Hilal team, while the region’s municipal council submitted its resignation in protest against the university’s decision.

On October 17th, the Tunisian Football Federation decided to suspend the activities of the Hilal Al-Shaba team and prevent it from participating in the competitions organized by the Tunisian Football Federation and its structures for the 2020-2021 sports season due to the incomplete enrollment file despite the reminder correspondence sent from the university.

As for the Sbeitla kiosk incident, it goes back to dawn on October 13th, when a citizen of the sub-delegation (Kasserine State) met his death after the municipality of the place executed decisions to demolish a number of random buildings that were built without a permit near the railway in the city, which led to the dismissal of the governor Kasserine, the commissioner of Sbeitla, and the head of the National Security District and the head of the municipal police station from his duties.
