Bárcenas has been in the

) since May 2018, when the Second Section of the Criminal Chamber of the National High Court sentenced him to 33 years and four months in prison, a penalty that the High Court has downgraded to 29 years and a month.

would be able to be close to his wife, who is waiting for the court of the 'Gürtel case' to execute the final judgment of the Supreme Court and inform him that he must enter prison.

Rosalía Iglesias, whose sentence has also been reduced by the Supreme Court from 15 years and one month to 12 years and 11 months in prison, only spent a few hours in the Soto del Real prison in 2018 upon hearing the resolution of the National Court, but left by posting a bond of 200,000 euros that the court imposed on him to avoid jail.
