The hedgehog has probably been around for more than 30 million years.

But it has fallen sharply in number and was added to the Species Data Bank's red list earlier this year.

The strain has gone from viable to near threatened.

- It is very sad, I want my children and grandchildren to also meet a hedgehog, says Ellen Andreason at the Nature Conservation Association in Falun.

Hedgehogs go dormant during the winter and when it is time to clean the autumn in the garden, there are things you can do to help them survive the winter.
