His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, yesterday morning, inaugurated the heritage area in Khorfakkan, as part of Sharjah's projects to preserve, revive and promote the heritage buildings in the area, transforming it into a tourist attraction and a cultural destination that attracts tourists and visitors from various Places and cultures.

Upon his arrival at the heritage area, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah inspected the Wadi Water Canal, where he watched the Shosh race performances that were held on the occasion of the opening. The canal, which is 700 meters in length and five meters in width, is one of the most prominent tourist facilities with its recreational activities. Visitors have the opportunity to ride water buggies and wander around.

The valley channel is connected to the sea of ​​the Khorfakkan beach, and it has been deepened to ensure the continuity of the water's presence at all times, according to the tides, and the canal will be used as a drainage for the valley's water during rain.

Then His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah went to inspect the Al-Rayaheen Inn, which represents a group of old houses in the heritage area, which will be restored while preserving its archaeological features and the original divisions of the house.

And His Highness listened to an explanation about the upcoming stages of implementing the hostel and the proposed designs, and the most prominent services that will be provided to the guests, and the hostel includes houses for residence that reflect the old heritage character, as each house consists of different divisions and spaces to meet the wishes of the guests, and the houses consist of bedrooms, a living room, the liwan and outdoor sessions. The inn also has an outdoor garden planted with palm trees, henna and basil.

The largest house in the region was also used to include the hostel's reception area, a restaurant, some services for the hostel, and management offices, in addition to providing a group of popular shops that fit the inn's heritage character.

Then His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah inspected the youth hostel, which represents one of the old houses in the heritage area, dating back to the fifties of the last century, as the house included residential rooms, a store and a room to receive guests, and the hostel consists of five rooms distributed according to use, in addition to a garden and a reception room .

His Highness then toured the old market of Khor Fakkan «East Market», which has been restored and supplied with many shops and various commercial activities, to become a tourist and entertainment destination for all visitors and residents of Khor Fakkan. His Highness listened to an explanation of the stages that have been completed in the market, and the rates of operational movement and turnout from Visitors to all parts of the market.

His Highness also examined the covered market, in which the roofing process was carried out for an area of ​​500 square meters of pedestrian paths in the market, using kandal wood, invitations and mats, and the facades were improved and cladding them with rockets and stucco decorations, in addition to installing fans in all the corridors, and implementing an air-conditioned part after adding Glass in the facades.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah inspected the Old Souq Museum (the Crafts Museum), which is a cultural and heritage space that includes many sections devoted to displaying and explaining ancient arts and crafts.

And 25 stores have been allocated on the railway parallel to the main market axis, to display the lost traditional crafts, and the crafts reflect the various marine and mountain environments, and all ancient inhabitants' crafts, including folk medicine, shaving, sewing, pearl extraction, teaching the Qur’an, molasses extraction, marine crafts, and others.

The museum will provide visitors with realistic experiences of traditional crafts, and it will join many workshops and events that will revive and teach these important heritage crafts.

Future projects

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was briefed during his tour of plans to develop a number of future projects in the city of Khorfakkan, including the Sharq Hotel - Khor Fakkan project, which will be worked on in two phases, the first on an area of ​​1600 square meters and the second on An area of ​​3800 square meters, and will provide guests with all hotel services.

He was also informed of the plans for the restoration project of Al-Mansour Fort, which is one of the important archaeological forts in Khor Fakkan. The restoration will include the entrance to the fort, the tower, the rooms, the inner courtyard and all parts of the fort.
