China News Service, October 18th. According to a report from the Russian Satellite Network, on the 18th local time, Iran announced that the five-year arms embargo imposed by the United Nations on Iran was officially lifted. From now on, Iran can freely purchase and export weapons.

According to reports, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement, “From today, all restrictions on Iran’s arms transportation, related activities and financial services, as well as the previous restrictions on the entry or transit of United Nations members on certain Iranian citizens and military officials. All bans imposed by the country will be automatically lifted."

The statement also stated that as long as the UN Security Council does not take additional measures, the embargo will be automatically lifted, so Iran does not need to take additional special actions.

According to the report, the statement emphasized, “From today, Iran can purchase any necessary weapons and equipment from any source without any legal restrictions, but based solely on its defense needs. At the same time, (Iran) can also follow its own policies. Export defense weapons and equipment."

In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany.

According to the agreement, Iran promised to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

The UN Security Council subsequently passed Resolution 2231, approving the Iran nuclear agreement.

According to Resolution No. 2231, the arms embargo on Iran will end on October 18, 2020.

The United States previously proposed a draft resolution to try to extend the arms embargo on Iraq indefinitely, unless the Security Council made a new resolution to lift the embargo, but the draft resolution was not passed.
