Västerås' master plan states that it is a challenge to build an attractive and green city in strong growth.

Following a decision by the City Council in September, work has now begun on developing Västerås' first architecture program.

A team of landscape, building and planning architects, building antiquarians and other skills from various administrations collaborate - also with private actors - to create what will be a strategically important document for urban development.

How the city should build, maintain and manage in different areas - new and old - to make it a long-term sustainable urban environment.

It is about the architecture program that Nora Kvassman and Viktor Brandt Johnson and their colleagues work with.

Not the end of the "ugly and nice discussion"

The architecture program covers both urban and rural areas, buildings and their spaces with parks, streets and other environments.

It is about how to work with and develop in both new and existing areas.

- Nice and ugly is someone subjective.

I think the important thing about architecture is that you raise the quality and take advantage of properties such as details, design and actually create really good environments for people to live and be in, says planning architect Viktor Brandt Johnson.
