The day after the assassination of the history professor, beheaded near a college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, in Yvelines, René Chiche, associate professor of philosophy and vice-president of the Action et Démocratie union, was worried the lack of reaction following this tragedy.

INTERVIEW

René Chiche, associate professor of philosophy and vice-president of the Action and Democracy union, was the guest of Europe 1 on Saturday evening, following the assassination of history professor Samuel Paty, Friday in the Yvelines.

"A professor has been beheaded and the country continues to turn as if we have gotten used to this barbarity. Something is wrong and everyone should be questioned! Even if it is good that there is a national tribute ( Wednesday), we should all have gone out in the street. If we are not able to do it, it means that French society no longer recognizes itself in its school, "he regretted.

"We can no longer speak of the school of the Republic in the singular"

"Of course, I will continue to show his cartoons, there is no shadow of a doubt. But it is not only about that, it is also about making people think. There are colleagues from National Education who are afraid. But there is also, unfortunately, within National Education, a kind of ideology which has slowly taken hold of the minds which has substituted education for a species of moralism, "he continued.

"The goal of school is all the same to put prejudices at a distance from oneself"

René Chiche also confided that he would not be taking lessons from November 2, when he returned from school holidays: "I will not be able to continue as if nothing had happened".

"The goal of the school is still to put prejudices at a distance from oneself. This requires tools. By reducing the hours of teaching and learning the French language painfully, neglecting mathematics, which is the teaching of the use of reason, we find ourselves in a situation where opinions clash with one another. […] However, school is about learning shelters teachers and students so that they can devote themselves in peace to perfecting the use of their reason ", he finally concluded.
