What blood type is associated with the lowest risk of infection with the emerging coronavirus that causes "Covid-19" disease, and which blood types are associated with a lower risk of complications, and what blood types are associated with more serious complications, then how do you know that the virus has reached the lungs?

We start with blood types and corona infection, as a new study showed that blood type "or" (O) is associated with a lower risk of infection with the Corona virus.

The study was published in the journal Blood Advances.

The study included 473,654 people in Denmark who were tested for Coronavirus between February 27, 2020 and July 30, 2020.

The type of blood type depends on the presence or absence of certain proteins on the red blood cells, and these proteins are called antigens (antigen), and the blood type is determined by inheritance from the parents.

There are 4 blood types, which are type "or" (O), family "A" (A), "B" family (B), and "AB" (AB).

The scientists found that the relative risk of infection with the emerging corona virus was 0.87 for people with blood type "or" (O), compared to 1.09 for blood type "A" (A), and 1.06 for blood type "B" (B), and 1. 15 is for AB blood type.

This means, statistically speaking, that carriers of the blood type "or" (O) are less at risk of infection with the emerging corona virus.

We emphasize here that the fact that you have blood type "or" (O) does not mean that you are immune from the Corona virus, and this study is only for guidance, and the only way to protect yourself from Corona is to adhere to the standards of social distancing, wear a mask, follow personal hygiene guidelines, and follow the instructions of health organizations In your country.

Blood types and dangerous complications of Corona

We move to another new study, which found that Covid-19 patients with blood type A or AB are at increased risk of needing mechanical ventilation, compared to those with blood type. Or "(O) or" B "(B), meaning that their condition is deteriorating to the point where their lungs need to help them to breathe.

Mechanical ventilation is a treatment that helps a person breathe when they find it difficult to breathe or become unable to breathe on their own, as a ventilator pushes airflow into the patient’s lungs to help him breathe.

The researchers collected data on intensive care unit patients who were admitted to 6 hospitals in Vancouver (Canadian) between February 21 and April 28.

The study was published in the journal Blood Advances.

The researchers said that it appears that "Covid-19" patients with blood type A (A) or "AB" (AB) show greater disease severity than patients who have blood type "or" (O) or "B" (B). ).

5 signs that Corona has infected the lungs

The symptoms of "Covid-19" vary in severity between patients, as they are mild for some, and severe for others.

But when do we know that the virus infected the lungs?

In a report published by the French magazine "Santi Plus", the writer "Rose A" said that shortness of breath is one of the most prominent symptoms that people with Covid-19 suffer, and the reason is that the new Corona virus affects the lungs in most cases and may cause serious complications, Hence, many patients need support with artificial respirators.

The report quoted clinical doctor Deborah Lee, her advice to Corona patients to pay close attention to the symptoms that appear on them, and to rush to health care centers if they notice some signs of damage to the lungs.

The specialist who previously worked in the British Health Services Authority warns of 5 symptoms indicating that the Corona virus has infected the lungs, namely:

1- Severe cough

Dry cough and cough are common symptoms in patients with "Covid-19".

Although coughing helps protect the body from the particles carried in the air, severe and frequent attacks indicate a worsening of the condition.

Coughing prevents oxygen from reaching the lungs and can cause serious complications, and when it becomes more severe, this predicts severe pneumonia.

2- Difficulty breathing

Some Covid-19 patients suffer from shortness of breath, and the more difficult the breathing, the worse the patient's health condition.

When shortness of breath interferes with simple daily activities, and walking or climbing stairs becomes difficult, you should realize that your condition is not feeling well.

3- Extreme fatigue

Often patients, "Covid-19", suffer from extreme fatigue, due to the fever, sweating, coughing and dehydration caused by the virus, and thus a feeling of lethargy and fatigue, which prevents the patient from practicing his daily activities normally, and this is evidence of the exacerbation of pneumonia.

4- Blue lips

When the lips, fingers or toes turn blue, it is a sign of decreased lung function.

The body may not get what it needs from the oxygen and get some form of congestion with carbon dioxide.

Also, the color of the blood turns dark red when it does not reach enough oxygen, so the color of the lips tends to be blue.

5- Chest pain

Pneumonia can cause chest pain for several reasons. When the inflammation moves to the lining of the lung, or what is known as the pleura, it causes "pleuritis", and this results in chest pain that worsens when air is inhaled or coughed, as well as when intercostal muscles spasm.

A composite epidemic

We conclude with a study that found that the world is facing a huge storm of increased rates of chronic diseases, persistent infectious diseases, and public health failures, which caused an increase in death rates during the "Covid-19" pandemic.

The study said that the outbreak of the Coronavirus and the intertwining of the pandemic with a continuous global increase in chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes, in addition to environmental risks such as air pollution, all of this exacerbated the number of deaths due to infection with the virus.

The study is entitled "Global burden of disease" and is the most comprehensive of its kind.

It was published in the Lancet medical journal, and quoted by Reuters.

The study analyzed 286 causes of death, 369 diseases and injuries, and 87 risk factors in 204 countries and regions, to provide a picture of the basic health status of the world's population and the impact of "Covid-19".

"Covid-19 is a serious health emergency," said Richard Horton, editor of the Lancet.

He described the corona pandemic and the high global incidence of obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases as a "compound epidemic."

The study concluded that the most important causes of morbidity for people aged 50 and over in the world are ischemic heart disease, strokes and diabetes.

In the younger age groups, between 10 and 49 years old, road accidents, acquired immunodeficiency disease "AIDS", lower back pain and depressive disorders were the most common.

It also revealed that the increase in chronic diseases, coupled with public health failures in the face of avoidable risk factors, has made the world's population more vulnerable to health emergencies such as the Corona pandemic.

Horton said that chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, obesity and high cholesterol, which are symptoms suffered by millions around the world, have played an important role in the deaths of more than a million due to infection with Covid-19 so far.

He added that these symptoms are caused by unhealthy diets and insufficient exercise.

"We will continue to determine the health situation in every country after the pandemic subsides," he added.
