A 28-year-old man who was fleeing a traffic check in Paris was killed overnight from Friday to Saturday in Poissy (Yvelines) by the shooting of a police officer while he was rushing at him, said the Versailles prosecutor's office.

The two passengers, aged 29 and 33 and from Yvelines like the victim, were arrested and placed in custody, the same source said.

An investigation for refusal to comply and attempted homicide on the police officer was entrusted to the departmental security.

Another investigation into the use of firearms by the police was entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).

A 25-kilometer chase

At around 2:30 am, a car with three people on board was spotted on the ring road by a vehicle from the Paris anti-crime brigade, due to “erratic maneuvers”, this source told AFP.

According to a police source, the driver refuses to comply, leaves the ring road and fled by the A13 towards Yvelines.

A long chase then begins to Poissy, located 25 kilometers west of the capital, where the motorist stops his car.

One of the three policemen leaves to come and stand in front of the car, but at that time the vehicle starts up again, "endangering the policeman who, as the car passes, opens fire and fatally injures the driver", according to the prosecution.
