White House National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien said yesterday (16th) local time that he hopes to see progress in negotiations with North Korea around the following year's Tokyo Olympics.

Aide O'Brien talked about the Tokyo Olympics in Japan, saying, "We really want to see some progress" in a video conference at the Think Tank Aspen Institute.

President Donald Trump is campaigning for the greatest pressure on North Korea, while at the same time creating channels of communication with top leaders.

Adviser O'Brien emphasized that North Korea is currently not launching nuclear weapons and long ranges. "After the presidential election, I hope that once the North Koreans realize they have no other options, we will have the opportunity to negotiate."
