• Government.Pedro Sánchez is willing to withdraw his reform and negotiate from "tomorrow" the renewal of the CGPJ

  • Politics. The PP sets three conditions to renew the CGPJ and will take its "counter-reform" to Congress on Monday to "depoliticize it"

The

Professional Association of the Magistracy

(APM) and the

Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association

(AJFV), first and second in number of associates in the Judicial Career, have decided to plant the

Ministry of Justice

in protest of the express reform of the General Council of the Judicial Power.

Through a statement, the groups have reported that they were summoned by the Ministry of Justice for meetings with the Secretary of State,

Pablo Zapatero

, on October 19, 20 and 27, declining attendance.

"In compliance with one of our main purposes, which is to defend judicial independence, we have decided not to attend the meetings called or the meetings that are later organized by the Ministry of Justice for the next few days as long as the bill presented in the General Courts on reform of the system of election of the judicial members of the CGPJ ", maintain both judicial associations.

From the APM and the AJFV they emphasize that "we cannot speak of shock plans or reform projects with those who justify, promote and support a reform project of the

Organic Law of the Judicial Power

that attacks judicial independence outright and places us outside of European values and standards of separation of powers ".

For its part, from

the Independent Judicial Forum they

have issued a statement where they argue that "the proposal not to participate in meetings with the Ministry of Justice, in these circumstances, is an empty gesture of content that would only affect the citizens targeted by the projects ministerial ".

In the opinion of this association, it is more correct to propose the withdrawal of the candidates for Council members.

"We firmly believe that judges must renounce to participate in the political distribution of the judiciary," they assure from this group.
