Dubai Municipality stated that it violated and closed 25 food establishments within 45 days, from the beginning of September to mid-October, due to non-compliance with the precautionary measures for "Covid-19".

The director of the municipality's food inspection, Sultan Al-Taher, said that the municipality had warned 1579 other institutions during the same period.

Al-Taher told Emirates Today that the municipality has monitored a great commitment by food establishments to the procedures and requirements set by the municipality to confront “Covid-19” during the recent period, compared to last month, attributing the reason to the increase in campaigns and inspection visits that municipality inspectors make on a daily basis.

He explained that the municipality inspectors carried out 10 thousand and 141 field visits to food establishments in Dubai during the past 45 days, and 25 food establishments were violated and closed, which did not adhere to the procedures set by the health authorities to limit the spread of the "Covid-19" epidemic, indicating that the number of institutions Food compliance procedures reached 8,404 establishments.

Al-Taher pointed out that the most prominent violations that were detected were failure to adhere to social distancing, wearing personal safety equipment such as masks and gloves while preparing foodstuffs, as well as not using approved sterilization and disinfection materials, pointing out that the decision to close the violating institution is temporary until the cause of the violation is removed. He added that the municipality inspectors check, during their supervisory visits, the daily follow-up records for the health of workers, record sterilization and disinfection operations, in addition to making sure that food safety requirements are applied to food during reception, preparation and storage, display at healthy temperatures, and the application of hygiene and sterilization procedures, to prevent contamination.
