The curfew came into effect this Saturday at midnight: 20 million French people are concerned in Ile-de-France and in 8 other metropolises, consigned at home from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The goal is to break the curve of the Covid-19 epidemic, which continues to grow.

What to expect with this contested measure?

No more going out to restaurants, to the theater, from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day, for 20 million French people and for a minimum of 4 weeks, ban on being in the street under penalty of a fine of 135 euros.

Relative ban, however, since exceptions are provided for night workers for example.

This

radical measure,

however, raises a lot of criticism.

It restricts freedoms in the private sphere.

Its opponents note that the majority of epidemic outbreaks, clusters, are found in professional and educational circles, environments which paradoxically are not affected by the curfew.

But in fact, these clusters only concern a minimal part of the contaminations, those for which the authorities have determined the contact cases.

For the vast majority

of new infections

, it is not known how they came about.

It is therefore wrong to say, like the opponents of the curfew, that businesses and schools are the places where we contaminate ourselves the most, just as it is wrong to say that it is in the private sphere, like Emmanuel Macron justified this when announcing this decision.

We simply do not have the answer to this question.
